The Joan Sutherland Society of Sydney Tribute to Richard Bonynge on his 80th Birthday at the City Recital Hall Angel Place, 18th July, 2010.
We went in great anticipation of hearing a wonderful evening of music, and we were not disappointed. We thoroughly enjoyed the night from start to finish, and would like to praise the President and Committee of the Joan Sutherland Society, who worked tirelessly to organise this magnificent evening and for mounting their largest ever concert event so successfully.
Moffat Oxenbould was the evenings Host, interspersing musical items with a very informative and vast knowledge of Richard's career- from the beginning with his first engagement as a conductor to the present day. He touched on Richard’s love of researching and collecting operas, especially those not performed or seldom done, and how he had introduced them back to the repertoire, particularly the Bel Canto ones which Dame Joan excelled in singing. The information Moffat shared with us was extremely interesting, giving us a great insight into the hard work that Richard has devoted to his craft for his entire career.
