18 July, City Recital Hall Angel Place

On the 18 July the JSS presented their most ambitious event to date, a concert to mark Richard Bonynge’s 80^th Birthday which falls on 29 September of this year. Nineteen singers gave of their services for this auspicious occasion with the incomparable Sharolyn Kimmorley on the piano and Moffatt Oxenbould as host for the evening. In a programme of ensembles, and at many times representative of the works Maestro Bonynge has been closely associated with, the capacity filled audience cheered and applauded giving not only the Maestro a five minute standing ovation at interval but also the artists at the end of the night.

Such dignitaries as the Governor of New South Wales, Professor Marie Bashir AC CVO representing  the Administrator of the Government of the Commonwealth of Australia, Former Prime Minister Mr Bob Hawke and his wife Blanche d’Alpuget, Maestro Richard Bonynge, Adam and Helen Bonynge (all pictured) attended including; Margaret Whitlam, Mr Alan Jones, sponsors Campari and Pamela Hoskins of Brangayne of Orange Winery and singing legends such as Lauris Elms, Robert Gard, Stella Axarlis and Graeme Ewer.  This monumental event has raised considerable revenue for scholarships and study grants for many of our emerging young artists and the JSS would like to thank all the artists, sponsors and members of the public who attended for making this such a memorable occasion.
