Glenn Winslade

Born in Australia, Glenn Winslade studied in Sydney and then Vienna.  He has appeared with Opera Australia, Metropolitan Opera, New York, Royal Opera Covent Garden, Glyndebourne Festival, Edinburgh Festival, Bayreuth Festival, Berlin, Hamburg, Dresden, Stuttgart, Vienna, Zurich, Venice, Rome, Monte Carlo, Paris, Madrid, Lisbon, Brussels, Amsterdam and  Moscow.  Roles include Florestan (Fidelio), title role (Idomeneo), title role (La clemenza di Tito), Erik (The Flying Dutchman), title role (Rienzi), title role (Lohengrin), title role (Tannhäuser), the Emperor (Die Frau ohne Schatten), Apollo (Daphne), Bacchus (Ariadne auf  Naxos), Max (Der Freischütz), Huon (Oberon), title role (Oedipus Rex) and Albrecht (Mathis der Maler).  Concert repertoire includes music by Beethoven, Mahler, Janácek, Schönberg and Elgar. He has worked frequently with conductors like Sir Andrew Davis, Sir Colin Davis, Christoph von Dohnanyi, Michael Gielen, Bernard Haitink, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Marek Janowski, Lorin Maazel, Sir Charles Mackerras, Ingo Metzmacher, Marc Minkowski, Antonio Pappano, Georges Prêtre, Ulf Schirmer, Jeffrey Tate, Christian Thielemann, Simone Young, Richard Bonynge and Edo de Waart.  In 2004 he sang his first Peter Grimes with the LSO under Sir Colin Davis in London and New York and these concerts were recorded and released on the LSO Live label. This recording was nominated for a Grammy Award. Other recordings include ‘The Messiah’, Mahler 8 and ‘Gurrelieder’. Videos include Arabella and Intermezzo from Glyndebourne and Khovanchina from Brussels.

Glenn Winslade has been guest tutor for Masterclasses at the NSW Conservatorium of Music and The Royal  Academy of Music, the Young Artists Programme of Opera Australia and the new Melbourne Opera School. He is in great demand as a private teacher to both professional and student singers.
